A Complete Growing Guide for Rainbow Carrots.
Carrots are a taproot vegetable, usually orange, though heirloom varieties in a rainbow of colors include purple, black, red, white, and yellow. Carrots are a domesticated form of the wild carrot.
In this course, you will learn growing tips for carrots.
The four general types are:
- Chantenay carrots--shorter, broad with a blunt, rounded tip.
- Danvers carrots-- longer with a conical shape, tapering to a point.
- Imperator carrots-- high sugar content, long and slender roots, tapering to a pointed tip.
- Nantes carrots-- sparse foliage, cylindrical, short with a blunt tip, brittle, high in sugar.
Carrots are grown from seed and can take up to four months (120 days) to
mature, in full sun or some shade, 60 to 70 °F, in soil high in potash.
Rich or rocky soils should be avoided, to prevent the roots becoming hairy and/or mis-shaped.

community garden, local foods greenhouse and advocacy for Farm to
School. Our first organic community garden in 2009 was partnered with a
middle Georgia Montessori Edible Schoolyard program. In 2010, we held a
Farm to School fundraiser Festival on the square in Thomaston, Georgia.
Currently serving Spalding, Lamar, Upson and Middle Georgia with weekly
Farmers Choice, seasonal veggie farm box deliveries and Farm to School gardens.
